INTERNATIONALISATION OF CARREFOUR AND THE DYNAMICS OF MODERN CHANGE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

Abstract


One of the famous supermarkets in the world is Carrefour which was founded in 1959 by in Annecy-France by Marcel Fournier, a textile retailer, and Louis Defforey, a wine and food wholesaler. Current Carrefour is the number one supermarket chain in France and ranks fourth after Costco, Tesco and Wal-Mart respectively, globally. The company has seen significant challenges in its operations in Greece and will want to explore new market such as the UK. The objective of this paper is to analyse the micro and macro environmental factors that Carrefour must consider in order to reduce potential risk of failure in the UK market. It also looks at how the company must deal with the UK Government policies on mergers and acquisitions and based on the effect it can have on its growth. Finally the paper explore how management of the company can implement change based on existing change management models
