A new AI-powered writing assistant designed to support, rather than replace, human creativity has launched early access signups, promising to revolutionise storytelling across multiple industries.
SiD, developed by Manchester-based companies Bellyfeel and Diagonal Thinking in collaboration with AI specialists Takara.AI, is an innovative platform aimed at screenwriters, novelists, game writers, and transmedia creators. Unlike many AI-driven tools, SiD prioritises ethical AI use, ensuring that writers maintain full creative control and intellectual property rights.
A Different Approach to AI in Writing
SiD’s developers describe it as a tool that enhances storytelling without undermining the role of the writer. It provides AI-driven collaboration to help generate ideas, refine narratives, and overcome creative blocks, but it does not produce content autonomously.
“We set out to build a tool that would be a genuine inventive partner for writers,” said Krishna Stott, SiD co-founder and director at Bellyfeel. “SiD is the result of a unique collaboration between storytellers and AI experts. It’s an adaptable, secure platform that can take a writer’s ideas to the next level, whether they’re working on a screenplay, a game narrative, or a transmedia project.”
One of the platform’s key features is its strong commitment to security and privacy. Unlike some AI tools that use user input to train their models, SiD ensures that all content remains confidential and is never repurposed.
“Keeping writers in the driver’s seat and their IP secure was a non-negotiable for us,” explained Phil Birchenall, SiD co-founder and director at Diagonal Thinking. “It’s not here to write on your behalf; we think of it as a creative amplifier—more like Canva or Photoshop for storytelling.”
Backed by Strategic Investment
The development of SiD has been supported by DreamLab at the MediaCity Immersive Technology Innovation Hub (MITIH) and additional funding from AWS. This investment has enabled the team to build an advanced, ethical AI tool that integrates seamlessly into professional writing workflows.
SiD is designed to be highly adaptable, catering to a range of writing disciplines. Whether used for film scripts, novels, game narratives, or transmedia projects, the platform aims to help creators develop their ideas with greater ease and efficiency.
Early Access Opens to Writers
With early access now available, writers are invited to explore SiD’s capabilities and provide feedback to help shape its future development. The tool’s key features include:
- AI-driven collaboration: Helps generate fresh ideas, refine narratives, and overcome writer’s block.
- Seamless integration: Fits naturally into existing writing workflows.
- Ethical and secure framework: Ensures full content ownership and protection.
- Versatility: Adapts to different storytelling mediums and genres.
SiD’s launch comes at a time when concerns about AI’s role in creative industries are growing. By positioning itself as a supportive rather than a replacement tool, the platform aims to reassure writers that AI can be used responsibly.
