Wellness and beauty icon Gwyneth Paltrow has partnered with tech innovator Kim Little to launch a groundbreaking new meditation app, “Moments of Space.” This app aims to redefine mindfulness practices by blending ancient Dzogchen teachings with modern technology, promoting a unique “eyes-open” approach to meditation.
Unlike traditional meditative practices, which often emphasise silence and stillness, Moments of Space encourages users to remain engaged with their surroundings while fostering a deep connection with their inner selves. Paltrow, who has a long-standing interest in wellness and mindfulness, believes this innovative method can make awakening accessible to a broader audience.
“Once you learn how to do eyes-open meditation—something you can literally incorporate at any time—you can be engaged with the world but still very connected to yourself,” Paltrow explained. “I rely on it to feel more whole.”
Founder Kim Little, a Buddhist and software developer, expressed his motivation for creating the app. “Moments of Space was born out of a desire to make meditation an integral part of my daily life,” he said. “I wanted to develop an app that does justice to the teachings I experienced during meditation retreats and makes them practical and personal, available anywhere and anytime.”
The app’s key features include its signature eyes-open meditation sessions, designed to fit seamlessly into busy lifestyles. With functionalities that allow users to practice meditation while walking or during daily commutes, Moments of Space promotes a ‘little and often’ approach to mindfulness. This strategy is supported by scientific research indicating that shorter, more frequent meditation sessions can enhance cognitive function and reduce stress more effectively than longer, isolated practices.
One standout feature of the app is its AI-powered personalisation. Through a Reflect feature, the app regularly captures users’ emotional states, using this data to recommend tailored content. This allows individuals to integrate mindfulness effortlessly into their daily routines, whether they are walking between meetings or travelling on public transport.
Paltrow highlights the app’s potential to foster deeper connections in a time of societal division. “I think we’re living in a time where there’s a lot of bifurcation and people have gone into their corners—closing in, closing down, closing ranks,” she said. “I believe eyes-open meditation could be potentially important for changing the world and deepening how we connect to ourselves and others.”
With its innovative features and focus on accessibility, Moments of Space is set to carve out a new niche in the meditation app market. By making ancient practices more relevant to modern lives, Paltrow and Little hope to inspire a global awakening, encouraging users to embrace mindfulness in a way that fits into their daily lives.
As the world continues to grapple with the demands of modern life, Moments of Space promises to be a beacon of mindfulness, guiding users toward a more balanced and fulfilling existence.
