Monotype Imaging Inc., a global leader in type design, is set to make a significant impact at Adobe MAX 2024, showcasing its innovative approach to typography. The world-renowned creativity conference, taking place from October 14 to 16 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, will attract thousands of creative professionals, designers, and industry experts. Monotype is poised to unveil new tools, offer educational insights, and introduce an exciting collaboration with the iconic American notebook brand, Field Notes.
At the heart of Monotype’s presence at Adobe MAX is its “Universe of Type” concept, an exploration of typography as a living, evolving ecosystem. Attendees will have the opportunity to discover some of the most exciting typefaces from Monotype’s vast library, which includes over 150,000 premium fonts. To enhance the creative process, Monotype is introducing a new AI-enabled font pairing tool, designed to streamline font discovery and selection. The tool is expected to offer users more intuitive ways of finding and combining typefaces to suit their projects.
For those seeking a more personal touch, Monotype’s type experts will also be on hand to provide a “typographic palm reading” — a creative and interactive session designed to offer tailored guidance on typography choices.
A key highlight of the conference will be a breakout session led by Monotype’s Senior Type Designer, Spike Spondike, and Senior Brand Designer, Kerry Squires. Their session, “Aligning Stars & Serifs: A Guide to the Typographic Universe,” will take place at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, October 14. Spike and Kerry will offer attendees valuable insights into navigating the expanding world of typography, providing practical advice on how to utilise Monotype’s vast resources and emerging technologies. The session promises to empower designers at all stages of their careers by simplifying the creative process and helping them make informed design decisions.
Speaking ahead of the event, Spike Spondike said: “At Monotype, we view the ‘Universe of Type’ as an ever-expanding creative ecosystem, with new stars being added every day by foundries and independent type designers worldwide.”
Kerry Squires added: “Navigating this universe of typographic possibilities can be overwhelming. That’s why, at Adobe MAX, we want to offer practical guidance on using new tools and reflective questions to help creatives unlock exciting design combinations.”
Monotype’s presence at Adobe MAX 2024 also marks a milestone for its Foundry Program, which launched a year ago. Since then, the program has grown by 60%, now featuring over 2,230 participating foundries. These partners release more than 3,200 new typefaces every month, many of which will be displayed at Monotype’s booth during the conference.
In addition to its font innovations, Monotype is launching a collaboration with Field Notes, the American notebook brand known for its craftsmanship and creativity. The partnership will kick off with the release of a limited-edition notebook, available exclusively at Adobe MAX, and marks the beginning of a series of collaborative projects set to roll out over the coming months.
Bill Connolly, Creative Evangelist at Monotype, commented: “This collaboration celebrates the shared values of creativity and craftsmanship between Monotype and Field Notes. We’re excited to bring this to life at Adobe MAX.”
Jim Coudal, President of Field Notes, echoed this sentiment: “We’re thrilled to be working with Monotype to enhance typography across our products and communications. This collaboration is just the beginning of some exciting projects ahead.”
